Find the Right Press Targets for Your Music

Find the Right Press Targets for Your Music

Want your music marketing campaign to make an impact? You need to reach the right people. This means finding the blogs, radio stations, and playlists that are most likely to connect with your music and your audience, as well as putting you alongside influential artists.

Where to Find Your Targets

Blogs

  • Hype Machine: This website lists hundreds of music blogs, making it easy to find ones that fit your genre. Perfect for little to no budgets.

Helpfully, they index these sites, and you can filter that index by genre and by territory so you can quickly identify which blogs might be relevant to your music

Radio

  • Start local: Check out radio stations in your area that play similar music to yours.
  • Branch out: Look for national and international stations that might be a good fit.
  • Connect with producers: Radio producers are the ones who decide what music gets played, so try to connect with them online.

Playlists

  • Submission apps: un:hurd music matches your music and sound to relevant playlists you are most likely to land on and reach fans of your sound.
  • Connect manually: You can find playlist curators yourself and see if they have an Instagram or email address to contact them. They might offer a better rate but it can be more timely.

Important Notes

  • Paid submission doesn’t guarantee placement: Some blogs or playlists might ask for money to feature your music. Remember that you are paying for their matching tool, but not to be placed which is against Spotify’s terms of service (for playlisting).
  • Stay organised: Keep track of who you've contacted and what their response was. un:hurd's Campaign Tracker can help you with this! Check back to your activity ‘Produce a list of press, radio and playlist targets for your upcoming campaign’
